Chicago, IL – Extra: Illinois pension reform today encountered another legislative twist.
Illinois House lawmakers next week may get a chance to vote on Senate President John Cullerton’s pension legislation, Senate Bill 2404 – but with an amendment.
House Speaker Michael Madigan today filed an amendment to Cullerton’s bill, gutting the plan and inserting Madigan’s own pension reform language onto the bill.
According to a top House Democrat, “It will give members an option next week if it gets out of committee.”
The General Assembly returns to Springfield on June 19 for a one-day special session called by Governor Pat Quinn in an attempt to end the pension reform stalemate.
The House Pension committee will meet on June 18 at 4:30 p.m. at Room 114 in the Capitol.
